About Us

Here at the Flat Rock Ranch, we try to help people enjoy the natural resources found in this area of the Tall Grass Prairie of North America. Hunting and fishing opportunities are only a few of those pleasures.

Hunting takes place between September 1st and May 31st each year, and fishing between March 1st and October 31st each year. We devote much of our time and effort to maintaining native plants and animals of this region. We encourage family participation in outdoor sports to development an appreciation of the native grasslands.

We sponsor county-wide fishing clinics every three years for Greenwood County youth 8-16 years of age. We also support the County 4-H fishing projects.

We have photography blinds available for viewing prairie chickens in the spring and other wildlife throughout the year. There's an abundance of native songbirds as well as various other birds here, along with White-tailed deer, wild turkey, and Bobwhite quail. The Flat Rock Ranch and other ranches are all active working beef cattle ranches. "No-Till" farming takes place in this area and the main crops are soybeans, milo, corn, and wheat.

With peace and quiet in abundance, our closest neighbor is a mile away, as not many people live in this vast grassland area. Depending upon the season, your closest neighbor might be Greater Prairie Chickens on booming grounds at sunrise, or a Pilated Woodpecker in the woods.

Sportsmen stay right here on the ranch and walk from their sleeping quarters to the hunting and fishing areas. It is often so quiet you can almost hear the silence. Toward evening you will often notice coyotes barking, and the sunsets are as pretty as anywhere in the world. With the absence of lights, the nighttime stars are all beautifully visible.
