Fishing

Fishing season runs from March 1st through October 31st with leases available for families of up to five members. We have 12 good ponds in ranch pastures, about 3 miles of fishing along West Creek, and 3 other leased streams.

West Creek is a nice prairie stream about 25 yards wide with a rock bottom and several riffles. The fish species include Channel Catfish, Flathead Catfish, Spotted Bass, Largemouth Bass, Crappie, Green Sunfish, and others. We stock Blue Catfish in some ponds as well (very similar to Channel Catfish).

We also stock hybrid Bluegill....fun for the kids!

We encourage fisherman to learn the different characteristics between Channel and Blue Catfish and only keep the Blue Catfish that are at least 25 inches in length, while releasing the smaller ones. There have been Flathead Catfish weighing up to 60 lb caught from our streams.

All of our ponds have good populations of Bass, and especially Black Bass. We ask that you keep Black Bass under 12 inches and release all over 12 inches. If you catch a large Bass over 17 inches, you may keep it if you like, however we'd prefer you release all Bass over 12 inches. For posterity, we'd like to take a photograph of any really large bass you catch (over 8 lbs).

There is a good population of Channel Catfish in most all our ponds and we encourage you to keep any size catfish, but no more than 5 per day.

Red Ear Sunfish, Green Sunfish, and Bluegill can be taken in any amount and size as long as you eat these fish, and don't take more than would be reasonable for one family at a time.

We have one pond where we keep Wipers, which is a cross between a Stripped Bass and White Bass. This pond is " catch and release only" for Wipers, which are good fighters - weighing anywhere from 4-6 lb and fun to catch on a fly rod.

The closest bait store is 16 miles away in Toronto. We usually have fishing worms available for sale, but generally we do not provide bait. There is a cleaning room and bait refrigerator available for your use.
