Hunting

In order to provide a pleasant stay for our hunters, we limit the number of hunters according to current game populations and the acres available, as well as the living accommodations. Please contact us for up-do-date pricing information. We welcome inquiries. For best hunting opportunities, book early!

We have dog kennels, decoys, ladder stands, ground blinds, permanent tree stands and other types of equipment hunters might need. This is all provided with no extra cost to the hunter.

We insist all hunters obey state and federal laws and regulations. Obtaining the proper state and federal licenses and stamps is the responsibility of the hunter. In order to obtain deer tags for either archery or rifle hunting, the hunter needs to apply in May of each year. Results are known by July. If you're unsuccessful in obtaining these tags, please contact us for assistance (we may have transferable tags available). In addition, you'll need to purchase a non-resident general hunting license.

Another responsibility of the hunter is to be self-educated about Kansas laws and regulations governing hunting. See our Links page for helpful resources and a topography map of the surrounding hunting area.

We have an abundant white-tailed deer population and limit the number of bucks taken each year to under 15, but do not limit the number of Does taken legally. We encourage hunters to harvest trophy bucks or to take a Doe in place of smaller bucks. The deer here probably average 15 deer per square mile. Given our acreage, our deer population should be approximately 150, and trophy bucks are common. Each year for the last ten years, bucks have been harvested here between 140-150 on the Boone and Crocket scale. A few deer with official scores of 160-170 have been harvested here, and deer capable of scoring up to 200 have been seen.

Hunter success here is very close to 75% in most years. Although we cannot make guarantees, we're confident you'll see some big bucks! We have other species of game animals like squirrels, rabbit, and predators such as coyote and bobcat.

Archery hunting is open October 1st through December 31st, with rifle season December 1st thru December 14th. (Archery hunting during rifle season is not allowed.) We ask deer hunters to hunt safely from fixed stands. We discourage the use of ATV's and attempts to drive deer on foot or any other means.

  Game Birds

Wild game birds here are Prairie Chickens, Bobwhite quail, waterfowl, doves and wild turkey (we do not release pen-reared game). We do not offer pheasant hunting since Ring-Necked Pheasants are not found in this area of Kansas.

Greater Prairie Chicken hunting here may be some of the best in the U.S.A.! The early season in Kansas, September 15th through October 15th, is great for hunting with pointing dogs (limit of two birds).

There is a later Greater Prairie Chicken season which runs from the first Saturday in November through January 31st. Hunting during this season requires fast shooting as birds fly quickly from grasslands into cut grain fields.

Waterfowl hunting has also been quite good. We have constructed four wetland areas and three watershed lakes with numerous farm ponds. Waterfowl use this area for the abundant crop fields and resting areas. Ducks include Mallard, Teal, Gadwalls, Shoveler, Baldpates and other puddle duck species.

Goose species found here are the Greater Canada geese, usually with high hunter success. We offer dove hunting opportunities in early September each year.

Wild turkeys are abundant on our lease and offer a 3 day/4 night spring turkey hunt. We have Rio Grande, Eastern, and hybrid varieties, with some gobblers exceeding 24-25 pounds. The fall turkey season runs between October 1st and December 31st (except closed during rifle deer season). A separate turkey tag is required for each bird harvested (limit three). Hunter success on turkey is about 75%.
